Texas Governor Rick Perry (R-Misogynist) appeared on Fox News with John Roberts and engaged in some spectacular mental gymnastics today as he tried to explain that his vicious personal attack against State Senator Wendy Davis was actually a compliment! For those who don’t know, Perry, who has presided over more executions than any governor in history said of Davis after her successful filibuster of Texas’ horrifying anti-choice bill, SB5:
“She was the daughter of a single woman, she was a teenage mother herself. She managed to eventually graduate from Harvard Law School and serve in the Texas senate. It is just unfortunate that she hasn’t learned from her own example that every life must be given a chance to realize its full potential and that every life matters.”
We repeat. Rick Perry has presided over more executions than any governor in history.
Fox News Host John Roberts told Perry that even the Republican Speaker of the state House had accused him of damaging the Republican Party, to which Perry responded,
“Actually, those comments were meant to be a compliment to her for what she had accomplished in her life, and you think about where she came from and what she accomplished, and as a matter of fact, I would think that she’s very proud of that as well.”
Yeah right, Rick Perry. That’s why Slate referred to Perry’s comments as “Slut Shaming.”
Perry went on to call the brave actions of Senator Wendy Davis and women and the men supporting her courageous stand against the regressive deadly bill as “mob rule.” Kinda seems more like majority rule–or, as we like to call it, DEMOCRACY.
