Mary’s Gourmet Restaurant in Winston-Salem, North Carolina gained attention recently when Z88.3 a Christian radio station in Orlando, Florida posted a photo of a customer’s receipt on their Facebook page showing that the restaurant gave them a 15 percent discount for praying before eating their meal.
Their enjoyment of that attention was short-lived, however, as was the practice of giving customers a discount for praying.
The Freedom From Religion Foundation (FFRF) was notified of the practice and immediately fired off a letter informing the owners that the practice is illegal as it singles out those who observe a religion for preferential treatment.
Mary’s ceased offering the discount and placed a sign in their window explaining to customers that the discount is illegal and that they had been threatened with a lawsuit:
