Police in Perry Township, Ohio have reported that 65-year-old Roger Smith has shot a 21-year-old man who was out in front of his home. There was no altercation, no words exchanged, and no threats made according to Police Chef Pomesky; Smith produced his gun and simply shot the man.
Police had been called to the neighborhood before to deal with disturbances involving the 65-year-old Smith, but the victim of the shooting had never been involved in any of those previous disturbances. This incident, on the face of it, appears to be completely unprovoked.
The condition of the victim is unknown right now, but he was taken to a local hospital. Smith has been charged with discharge of a firearm on or near a prohibited premises, discharging a weapon into a home or school, and felonious assault, and is being detained in Stark County Jail.
