3-year-old Tynirah Borum was getting her hair braided on the front porch of a her home on Friday night when two men began to argue on the street in front of the home. One of them suddenly pulled his handgun and fired three shots, striking the other man in the head, Tynirah in the chest, a woman standing nearby in the arm and a man in the leg before speeding away on his bicycle.
Police rushed Tynirah to the hospital in a patrol car where she succumbed to her wound less than an hour later. The other victims were also hospitalized, the two bystanders have non-life threatening wounds, but the shooters intended target — an unidentified 24-year-old man — is in critical condition.
Douglas Woods, 22, of Philadelphia was apprehended later and charged with murder, three counts of attempted murder, aggravated assault and other unspecified charges according to officer Tanya Little. He is being held without bail.
“She was everything to us,” a friend of Tynirah’s mother, Renee Bradford told a reporter for WCAU-TV.
“She didn’t deserve this. She was simply trying to get her hair done. For her to get shot in the chest? She’s a baby. No baby deserves to die like that.”
“There’s nothing much you can say about this tragedy,” said Tynirah’s cousin Mike Collins. “That was my little cousin. It hurts.”
