Congress came to a halt earlier today when Rep. Corrine Brown (D-FL) shamed House Republicans after many of them voted to make deep cuts to the SNAP (food stamp) program saying,
“The Bible says, to whom much is given, much is required. And this is a sad day in the House of Representatives. Shame on the Republicans! Shame on the House of Representatives!”
After Rep. Brown made her statement, it was sustained and “not recognized” by Rep. Rob Woodall (R-GA) and she was told to sit down. Republicans then threatened to strike the statement from the record and booed her.
After the decision not to strike Brown’s statements from the record was made, the Congresswoman shot back,
“This is a sad day in the House of Representatives, and to separate the farm bill from the elderly, from the children, this is a shame! Mitt Romney was right. You all do not care about the 47 percent!”
