Recent reports of 20 dogs that died overnight after chewing through a cord that supplied air conditioning to a kennel have begun to fall under intense scrutiny. The owners of the kennel, Todd and Maleisa Hughes, were out of town at the time of the deaths.
Local residents and dog owners are understandably upset over the fact that no criminal charges have been filed. Most, if not all, of them have stated they are planning on filing a civil suit.
However, more information has surfaced in the ongoing investigation. The night in question – Thursday June, 19 – the kennel was being watched by Austin Flake, son of U.S. Senator Jeff Flake (R) of Arizona, and Logan Hughes – the kennel owner’s daughter.
The timeline, according to Sheriff Joe Arpaio, does not match up with the deaths of the dogs. Experts are awaiting the results of forensics.
