Colorado Rep. Jared Wright is a true conservative! His Teabagger “street cred” includes a March 2013 vote against the establishment of additional penalties for violent offenses against pregnant women but a number of votes in favor of his beloved weapons.
Wright loves his “conservative male equipment extension” so much that he thinks they should go everywhere–including college campuses! Given his stance that deadly weapons belong even in educational settings, it’s no surprise that Wright takes his gun everywhere–and apparently feels it is responsible enough to be left on its own, as well.
The Denver Post’s Kurtis Lee reported that after a February 6 debate on concealed handgun permits, Rep. Jonathan Singer(D) found a black canvas bag under a table. Upon opening the bag, he discovered a loaded handgun. “I just immediately notified the Sergeant at Arms and soon we realized it was Jared’s bag,” he said.
Wright defends his irresponsible decision to leave a loaded gun unattended in the Capitol by saying he carries a concealed weapon inside all the time–something he is permitted to do under state law because he is a “peace officer.” Wright has not been a police officer since 2011. He did not make it clear if laws permitting those with “legal authority” would extend to his former profession.
Wright has agreed to “be more careful” with his toys.
