During a public forum this Tuesday, Rep. Dennis Ross (R-FL) blew off a questioner who asked the GOP Congressman to come try working for minimum wage to see if he could handle it.
Shaneeka Rainer has been working at Arby’s for a decade and has only received one raise — and that was when Congress increased the minimum wage in 2007. When Rainer confronted Ross at the forum, the Congressman’s dismissive attitude was palpable.
“It’s not right,” Ross said. “If we are going to make it a living wage, who’s going to pay for it?”
An audience member then chimed in, saying that he’d gladly pay more for a hamburger if it meant workers were given the ability to live better.
“I felt like he blew off my question,” Rainer told ThinkProgress after the town hall. “He doesn’t understand what it’s like.”
