When he’s not theorizing based on Nazi science that women’s bodies have a way of shutting down pregnancies resulting from a gross violation of their bodies or idiotically calling former Democratic Presidents rapists, or apologizing for his moronic claims about women’s bodies, or jumping straight back into those ideas soon after his apology, Todd Akin is enjoying his other interests: like claiming abortion is worse than the subjugation of an entire race of people in America.
The Huffington Post reports that slavery, which is not much of a big deal when compared to a woman having the right to decide whether or not to terminate a pregnancy, and poverty are caused by “bad ideas.” Akin, who is currently touring to promote his new book, Firing Back, in which he offers a passionate defense of his “misunderstood” claim about “legitimate rape,” told HuffPost Live that he’s not such a bad guy, really.
“I don’t have any resentment at all,” Akin said. “I came into politics from an engineer’s point of view. I came in with a very strong belief there’s good ideas and bad ideas. I was trying to be a salesman and a spokesman for ideas that make this a more beautiful and a better country. I don’t really carry personal animus toward other people. I don’t really dislike people.”
“There’s some ideas that leave people in bondage, in slavery, in poverty, in horrible conditions, and there’s other ideas that allow people to be free and prosperous. I’ve tried to be a defender of good ideas, but I don’t care about trashing anybody, that’s not my job,” he added.
Akin’s book comes highly reviewed.
