According to WSOC Charlotte, North Carolina Congresswoman and gun enthusiast Renee Ellmers (R-2nd Amendment) had an assault rifle stolen from her unlocked garage.
Rep. Ellmers, who recently made headlines when she said she needed her paycheck during the shutdown, had been out with her family at target practice. They returned home, leaned the rifle against but not in the gun safe and left the garage unlocked.
But at least the government isn’t taking her guns — criminals are.
Ellmers posits that gun ownership does come with responsibilities.
On her website the Congresswoman wrote:
“Although she believes that gun owners must be responsible for the use and care of their guns, she does not want to see law-abiding gun owners penalized for the actions of criminals. It has become far too easy to place blame on guns, and their accessibility, rather than the criminals themselves.”
Just a quick question. Whose fault is it if negligence puts the gun into criminal hands?
And another: Why not secure the rifle into the gun safe instead of leaning the weapons next to it? And then, why not lock the garage door?
Ellmers will not comment on an ongoing investigation.
The person who stole the assault rifle also had nothing to say.
