Republican Lawmaker Proposes Bill Forcing President Obama to Only Serve School Lunches at White House

In yet another display of contempt from the far right directed at the President and his family, a Republican Congressman has introduced a bill which would require that the menu for a State Dinner be exactly the same as a school cafeteria menu.

Representative Rodney Davis (R-IL) introduced H.R. 3686 with the ridiculous title of the School Nutrition Fairness Act as he posted on Facebook because he wants “to make sure this Administration is aware of the real-life impact their regulations are having on kids who are going hungry and our smaller school districts who are struggling to keep up with the increased costs.”

Davis said that the menu reported for the State Dinner on Tuesday honoring French President Francois Hollande contained approximately 2,500 calories, “which is almost three times as much as what the first lady and the USDA allow our school kids to eat in the school lunch program,” he said, adding that this was, “the height of hypocrisy.”

The guidelines that he is referring to are USDA guidelines, and while the First Lady supports them, she has no authority to create or enforce any regulations nor did she set these guidelines. It is simply another attack from the fringe lunatics on the right against that black family “occupying” their White House.

The USDA guidelines do have caloric minimums and maximums, 550 to 650 calories for K-5 and 450 to 600 for high school students.  The guidelines also set standards for the types of foods served, requiring that schools provide healthier choices including whole grains and fresh fruits and vegetables along with requirements to reduce the amount of salt and trans-fats included in meals.  They are not draconian measures and are in fact in line with what many parents try to feed their children at home.

From Bizpac Review:

“Wouldn’t it be nice if you leftists would stop dictating to us what to eat. You call yourselves pro-choice, but that seems to end at abortion.”

“Wouldn’t it be nice if these two maggots followed THEIR OWN RULES AND REGS. oh I forgot kings and queens don’t have to just their subjects. AND FOR YOUR INFO THE REPUBS HAVE BEEN TRYING TO, IT’S YOUR FILTHY PIECE OF CRAP OVOMIT’S FAULT.”

“Wouldn’t it be nice if the fat ass moochell practice what she preached.”

One suggested a menu change, “Fried chicken and watermelon!”

“The Kenyan and the Wookie never had it so good. They are living it up while they can then they will steal all the WH linens, silverware, dishes, paintings and antiques just like Clinton did when he was purged from the WH…”

The Tea party Republicans will never admit their racist hatred openly. What it all comes down to is more waste of the taxpayer’s money just to make their point that they do not accept that Barrack Obama is the legitimate President of the United States.

About Bob Cull

I'm retired and live in the Finger Lakes region of Upstate NY. I have strong opinions and my political bent has not changed since I was in high school. Most of my family thinks that I need to find a "real" hobby to fill my time in retirement, but I am content to share my opinions with others and exercise my "right" as a cranky old retired dude to express my views--which are based on many years of real world experience.

Afgreed, ONLY if THAT is ALL that is available at the Congressional dining hall as well. Who the HELL do these clowns think they are? They work for US, not the other way around! It is HIGH TIME that they were reintroduced to that truth.

  • DrPhrogg

Do you recall a President declaring that, for the purpose of school lunches, ketchup is a vegetable?

    • http://gravatar.com/xenubarb xenubarb

That was the Republican God, Ronald Reagan. Sure I remember that. It was a glimpse of insanity to come, if we but know it. Magic changes condiment to vegetable!

  • Bob Cull

That’s why we’re here, Michael, to make sure that they don’t get away with their crap unnoticed.

http://rodneydavis.house.gov/ has multiple articles about this so-called “bill.” 13th district in Illinois, eh? Ah, right, the newly-gerrymandered district that removed all of the larger cities from my district 15 and left me rotting in tea-party hell.

  • joebbz2

I’d be willing to bet this guy slashed Head Start, Public School education, School lunches, WIC, SNAP, Medicaid and sees no reason to pass a jobs bill . But to turn the Peoples House into a cafeteria ,well that’s just grandstanding. You know like burning a cross in someone’s front yard, is just messaging

What this knuckle-dragging teanderthal doesn’t seem to understand is that any bill like this that he introduces stands ZERO chance of becoming law… First he has to convince enough of the rest of the House to vote for it… that COULD happen until the end of the year… Then it goes to the Senate where it is dead on arrival. If by some miracle, it got through the Senate, the President still has to sign it for it to become law… and you know the chance of that is somewhere south of ZERO…

Great idea but never suggested during the Bushs’ administrations???!!!!

I am so glad I voted FOR President Barack Hussein Obama. Very very glad and very proud to have done do.

i blame the people that voted for someone like this in the first place . it seems that some places are getting exactly what they want. i have never seen a president treated in such a disrespectful manner . it makes me ashamed to be an american sometimes.

  • Bob

That’s nice, but where are the JOBS…..

    • http://gravatar.com/majiir majiir

Good question,Bob. That’s what I’ve been tweeting to Boehner, Cantor, and McConnell since January 2011 because they spent all of 2009 and 2010 telling us that if they were given control of both houses of Congress they’d create “jobs, jobs, jobs.” I’m still waiting on that jobs bill. Pres. Obama wrote the American Jobs Act, but Boehner won’t bring it to the floor of the House for a vote.

Coward must have removed the post, no longer on his FB page that I could find…

    • Bob Cull

It’s still there, Rae, you have to scroll down a little ways, he posted it on Tuesday.

  • paul fredine

then, might i suggest, the congressional cafeteria do exactly the same….any meals served would be just what is being served in the washington d.c. public schools on that particular day. i’d like to see them get excited by “taco tuesday” or “fish stick friday”. and they’re not allowed to send out or brown bag it.

Please excuse me for a moment. *one quick jaunt to the hardware store, an hour of construction and spray paint later, I gaze upon my work; a built-to-code wall, a nod approvingly. I then proceed to beat my head against it*

There are a lot of racists in this country who have a problem with having a black man in the White House. However, having an openly racist party in Congress should be enough to make even the most disinterested among us get off the duffs and vote them out.

    • Mrs. Dee Schwartz

Please vote them out, this will look bad when your grandchildren and great grand children read this hate in the history books.

    • miketheorganist

Yes. The Democrats should without a doubt be voted out. The idea that black people cannot make it without the Democrats is an insult to every black person who has any shred of self-respect. ALL people need the will to succeed and prosper and to learn how to create wealth, instead of buying the idea that only transfers of wealth in all the various nefarious forms that we have enacted can save them. Because even if it IS well-intentioned, this method cannot save them. They have to make up their minds as individuals that they’re going to make it no matter the circumstances, the same as anyone else does.

I know a lot of conservatives. I do not know a racist among them. Maybe I just don’t hang with what you’d consider rabble. However I DO know a bunch who wring their hands over the state of black America and wonder if ever it will be possible to get large numbers of them to see that we are FOR them, but not FOR supporting them financially by force of law. That in spite of the inability of many Founders to bring themselves to get rid of slavery even though they knew it to be wrong, the Constitution is a liberating, not oppressing, document, and that the 3/5 Compromise was the time bomb on slavery because it brought the slaveholders into union with the free states, and slavery could not withstand that.

The idea that getting people OFF public assistance, getting them to where they don’t NEED it anymore, is a racist position, is frankly more than I can get my mind around. The idea that asserting the truth about the nation’s finances, which is that the non-discretionary spending is unsustainable (less sustainable, I would say, than running an economy on fossil fuels), is somehow racist in intent, is flat-out stuck on stupid.

BUT~The idea that not only can we never be a colorblind society, but that non-whites have earned victim status in perpetuity, IS a racist position, and it is the position of the left whether you realize it or not. This is why you have such a cow over black conservatives, or black success stories that don’t end in massive contributions to the Democrats.

Like what happened when the Congressional Black Caucus showed up at the Fannie and Freddy hearings in 2004 to accuse the regulators of being racist because they’d found out what Frankin Raines was up to. Like how Clarence Thomas was character-assassinated by Ted Kennedy. Like how Herman Cain saw his career in politics destroyed because somebody thought he had behaved like Bill Clinton. The list is endless.

The truth is this. It’s all about individuals. It always has been. It always will be. The attempt to keep herding people into groups so that their minds will be ever subject to identity politics is what has divided us, and I have to say that establishment Republicans have been equally guilty of this as have progressive Democrats.

Go look up Black Tea Party Conservatives on Youtube. You might need a barf bag. But when you finish barfing, you’ll be cleaned out. Then maybe we can talk.

You drank too much of that tea. Your rant is so myopic it is sad to read it. I wish you luck but I really feel sorry for you.

So let me get this straight: the ReThuglicans and Tea Partista’s want to make sure that the Left is aware of the real life impact of increased costs and going hungry. So they deprive millions of citizens who need Food Stamp assistance by eliminating the funding for that program – I guess these Righty’s action doesn’t have an impact of increased costs and hunger. Where do they come up with these people? Is the whole gene pool of the Tea, excuse me, scumBag Party filled with incoherent inbreeds???

OK let’s see. Policy is “no tolerance” for personal attacks, but Mr. Fried has, well, fried that policy without penalty, I see. Perhaps aiming insults at a group doesn’t count as a personal attack, but I, for one, take it that way.

Reduction of the Food Stamp program by 5% is hardly a disaster, and to call it “eliminating” funding is to assign a completely new definition to that word. It is scheduled to be $80 billion, reduced to $76 billion. Granted, this would have about as much effect on how much food people get as would raising the minimum wage affect the poverty rate to any significant degree. Although perhaps many fewer Little Debbie cakes would be purchased.

Considering the way the recipients, by all accounts, have found many and varied ways to game this system (not the least of which is selling the cards for half their face value to get quick cash, to convenience store operators in the neighborhood who in effect then use tax dollars to replenish their shelves by using the cards bought on the street) I would say that if we do not cut the amount budgeted we should still cut the payments and use the difference to plan and execute some kind of oversight system to eliminate, as much as humanly possible, the fraud and abuse by recipients.

The Republican in question is trying to make a statement (unfortunately it is much too melodramatic) to the effect that the federal government has no business regulating what kids eat for lunch. This is outside the powers it was given. No matter what else he might say for consumption of his constituents, it’s all about telling the federal government to back off.

Now, Mr. Fried, I promise to engage you in a respectful way if you refrain from using your descriptive prowess in the way you did in your post.

      • http://none marc fried

Sorry Mike – left out of the paragraph was this phrase – and unemployment benefits as in “…So they deprive millions of citizens who need unemployment insurance (extended) and to a lesser degree Food Stamp assistance by eliminating the funding for that program – I guess these Righty’s action doesn’t have an impact of increased costs and hunger.

Bob, your headline should read, ‘Racist Republican Lawmaker Proposes Bill…’, and, of course, that is not news, nor newsworthy. Thanks for the heads up, ‘though. It is important to stay attuned to such bigotry in politics.
