In yet another example of the infighting currently going on inside the GOP, Rep. Peter King (R-NY) took a shot or two this morning at Rand Paul who it seems becoming one of the favorite targets within his own party. Between Chris Christie and King, poor Rand can’t win for losing.
Paul has been hollering about the over-reach of the NSA in the PRISM controversy and continued to do so on Fox News after which Rep. Peter King another Teapulican from the 2nd district of NY came on to naysay virtually everything Paul had said.
King said, commenting on Paul’s claims, “That was just a grab bag of misinformation and distortion.” Paul alleged that the President, a Constitutional scholar, doesn’t understand the Separation of Powers. The truth is that the President does understand and he also understands the weight of law. The Patriot Act effectively gutted the FISA court when it was passed, everyone has lamented it ever since yet Congress has done nothing to fix the problem even while Sen. Paul and his compatriots complain about it and it’s effects.
Rand is correct when he says that the Patriot Act is bad law and needs to be changed, yet rather than make an effort to change it he and his colleagues concentrate their efforts on demonizing and attempting to obstruct a President who they do not like. Last time I checked he was a part of the Congress and therefore responsible for creating law and fixing bad laws. Why doesn’t he get to work on rallying his colleagues from both sides of the aisle to, as the Teapubs love to say of the ACA, “repeal and replace” the Patriot Act. This would be the fastest and easiest way to fix the problem.
On the other hand it really is nice to see the right crumble from within. It only makes it more likely that we will take back the House and gain ground in the Senate.
