A reverend in Georgia has surely blown a few conservative minds with his recent religious rhetoric. Last week, Rev. Dr. David Gushee posted a blog titled, ‘Let Us All Now Pray to the Almighty Gun’, in which he made a very valid point about the obsession America’s conservative elite has with volatile weapons. Gushee wrote:
‘When we doubt, O Gun Almighty, strengthen our faith in You.
When the number of killings rise, strengthen our faith in You.
When children are murdered in large numbers, strengthen our faith in You.
Though You slay us, yet will we trust in You.’
Gushee is a distinguished professor of Christian Ethics and director of the Center for Theology and Public Life at Mercer University, in Macon, Georgia. He is an author and editor with 20 books, in his field, under his belt. He knows that people will find this prayer to be blasphemous, to which he says, ‘What is truly a sacrilege is our devotion to an Object that keeps killing us and our children.’ To read the full blog post, click here.
