A bold move by Senator Rand Paul to court the Evangelical voters for a 2016 Kentucky election has him throwing marijuana advocates under the bus. Paul has labeled himself a staunch Libertarian and has courted the votes from marijuana advocates who weren’t a fan of Liberal policies. He robbed from Peter to pay Paul for what he felt would give him the biggest chance at re-election as the Washington Post has recently reported. Randhole was rec-… err… sorry ‘Rand Paul’ was recently quoted about his change of heart at a recent dinner:
“I’m not advocating everyone go out and run around with no clothes on and smoke pot,” he said. “I’m not a libertarian. I’m a libertarian Republican. I’m a constitutional conservative.”
Rand Paul has a history of moving away from his stance as a Libertarian on state’s rights when marriage equality and regulation of women and the poor are concerned. As a reminder, many early Tea Party advocates also advocated for only allowing property owners voting rights… you know… like the good old days before electricity. Paul’s courtship of Evangelicals which implies more Federal laws being placed to restrict society in a partisan way is obviously not Libertarian, Republican, or any way of supporting limiting the power of the Federal government. His arguments pine for an era 60 years ago where Conservative partisanship was being dictated by the Federal government. He wants to bring BACK a tyrannical fed… not get rid of it. One of the men interviewed at Paul’s recent fund-raising dinner said:
“He made it very clear that he does not support legalization of drugs like marijuana and that he supports traditional marriage,” [Brad Sherman of the Solid Rock Christian Church in Coralville, Iowa].
Some call Rand and Ron Paul’s followers “Paulbots,” and you can see that is for a very obvious reason since many of their supporters would quickly be disillusioned should either of them get any type of real power in the government. Ron Paul is and was a very intelligent man although I disagree with many of his injected philosophies. Rand Paul is a low-quality attempt to clone his father but someone forgot to include the intelligence or philosophies parts. I imagine this is what happens when good people breed too closely in their own gene pool.
I might write up a list of my biggest WTF moments while reading up on Mr. Rand. However, until then, remember that Paul once courted a Neo-Nazi group and then took their cash for support of his campaign. So if you don’t want to be associated as a “racist” like many Republicans get so reactionary over the term, avoid supporting people who do racist things.
Also of note… You know how Colbert lost to Sanford recently? That whole “run against Nancy Pelosi instead of who you are running for?”… yeah… Rand did that too. That’s why we have this guy in the Senate. He didn’t beat his competitor, he beat who the hillbillies didn’t like…
