If you were a Republican in 2013 seriously considering a 2016 presidential run, who are the people whose endorsement you’d most like to get, other than the ghosts of Ronald Reagan and/or Dick Nixon? I can tell you for a fact there’s one person’s endorsement you’d actually pay money not to get — Sarah Palin’s. Well, unfortunately for Sen. Rand Paul, he’s just been saddled with that exact albatross. Little Miss Quits-A-Lot has thrown her hat in the ring in support of Rand, choosing his side over New Jersey Governor’s Christ Christie. The two Republican stars have been in a little slap fight of words over who is going to steer the GOP into further obscurity in three years. Watch Sarah Palin Announce She’s on ‘Team Rand Paul,’ Ensuring Christie the GOP Nomination
For the life of me I cannot figure out why anyone in the right-wing sphere of influence would ask for Palin’s opinion, much less seek her endorsement. The last two presidential tickets for the GOP have been utter and complete disasters, and Palin is reason number one for that fact. She was probably the single-biggest reason John McCain lost in 2008 — who could vote for him knowing she’d be literally a missed heartbeat away from the big red button? How could Republicans in any fantasy world even think that she’s someone who should be taken seriously?
Speaking on Fox News over the weekend, Palin said,
“I’m on Team Rand. Rand Paul understands. He gets the whole notion of ‘don’t tread on me’ government. Whereas Chris Christie is for big government and trying to go along to get along in so many respects.”
I don’t get it, I’ll probably never get it, but at least we can breathe a sigh of relief knowing that Rand Paul will never be President. Not that it was going to happen anyway, but having Sarah Palin on your team is the best way to ensure that fact, short of renouncing your citizenship. Watch Palin’s endorsement of Team Rand below.
