While the rest of the GOP are having a tailspin meltdown over Obama’s executive order, America’s favorite fascist sheriff, Joe Arpaio, is taking a more “level-headed” approached. He’s suing President Obama over the recently unveiled immigration reform order.
News of the suit was released by a group called Freedom Watch; the release included a statement from Arpaio that made mention of the “negative effects of the executive order,” which include “the increased release of criminal aliens back onto streets of Maricopa County, Arizona, and the rest of the nation.”
Arpaio is currently serving his sixth term as Sheriff for Maricopa County, and earned national infamy for his treatment of undocumented immigrants crossing into Arizona from Mexico — anyone crossing into Arizona from Mexico, really, since he would demand papers during routine traffic stops.
And while the federal government has fought successful to rein in Arpaio, some law enforcement agencies have been mimicking Arpaio’s racial profiling. That he’d file suit over something that’s become positively routine that every president since Eisenhower has been doing it is no surprise.
Of course, Arpaio is no stranger to courts. After all, the same day that Obama revealed his plan and Arpaio condemned it as “unconstitutional,” a federal judge warned the sheriff that his agency might get slammed with contempt of court if they didn’t cooperate with the long-running civil-rights cases that are current poised against them.
