The time has come for the Obama administration to address climate change. And he’s going to do just that on Tuesday in a speech at Georgetown University. He wants to share a national plan to reduce carbon pollution, prepare for the impacts of climate change and lead global efforts to fight it.
President Obama also sees this as a jobs opportunity, in addition to an environmental one. We’ll need to employ scientists, farmers, and engineers to help build a clean energy economy. It’s his hope that by doing so, we’ll help preserve our forests, waterways, croplands and snow-capped peaks. At the very least, we’ll do this in the interest of the future of our country and for our children.
The liberals, no doubt, will be cheering. But rest assured, the right is going to be ticked off. I can just see the smoke coming out of Boehner’s dayglo orange ears now. Maybe he’ll even cry. No doubt the GOP, and especially the Tea Party, will laugh at these “liberal” efforts and silly environmentalists.
Wasn’t it Mitt Romney who made fun of environmentalism in his speech at the RNC? Balking at the idea that the oceans are rising with global warming? Bet he and Ann won’t be laughing when their beach side mansion gets drowned by the rising tides. No worries though. They’ll just buy another one.
