President Obama’s bully pulpit is getting a whole lot of use these days. He’s started to take his second term agenda goals on the road, giving speeches focusing on economic growth and investing in our future and our children’s education, and now it appears he’s ready to turn up the heat on Congressional Republicans by way of national media outlets. In an interview with CNN today, Obama got real with the American people as to just why he feels the GOP is fighting his agenda so hard.
In the interview, Obama addressed two key points of failure of TEApublicans in Congress — the budget and the Debt Ceiling. Both are being held hostage right now by an intransigent and obstructionist Republican party in the House. “Congress doesn’t have a whole lot of core responsibilities. One core responsibility is passing a budget, which they have not done yet. The other core responsibility that they’ve got is to pay the bills that they’ve already accrued,” Obama said of the two big challenges facing Washington this fall.
But perhaps the most direct shot Obama took at the TEApublicans and their media mouthpieces was when he laid the blame squarely at The Tea Party and Rush Limbaugh’s feet for the utter cowardice and lack of leadership among Republicans who may actually agree with the President on principle. Obama told Chris Cuomo,

Clearly Obama’s ready to set up the showdown between his second term agenda and the Republicans trying to block it. For the first time in a long time, he also appears ready to give the American people a chance to see and judge it all for themselves.
