A police officer has been fired after taking scissors to the hair of a detainee because she felt the extensions in the woman’s hair were “a suicide risk.”
According to an arrest report for Charda Gregory, 22, of Warren, Michigan, she was taken into custody for disorderly conduct, private property damage at an area hotel room, and assaulting a police officer.
Once in custody, Gregory was smashed into a wall, sprayed with pepper spray, tied to a restraining chair and then her hair was forcibly cut with scissors. The police officer cutting and raking at Gregory’s head and ripping out the extensions attempted to justify the actions in her written police report by saying that wigs were a suicide risk.
David Griem, the attorney for Warren City, Michigan, and two city police administrators who reviewed the video several times all agreed to fire the police officer in the video. Griem says the ten-year veteran officer was freelancing. How a ten-year veteran is employed without a long-term contract, we are unsure.
“There is a policy about removing wigs, but, that doesn’t cover scalping a person,” said Griem.
The investigation into the haircut is ongoing. All charges have been dropped against Gregory and she has settled out of court with the department.
While police take their time in coming to the realization that a cop with a pair of sharp scissors is probably more dangerous than a hair weave, you can watch the incredible stupidity here.
