Shoppers at a Greenville, South Carolina Walmart were horrified as they watched an officer repeatedly punching a suspect in the head while he was on the ground Saturday afternoon. The crowd gathered around what more closely resembled a severely one-sided UFC fight than an arrest begged the officer to stop as he landed blow after blow on the man.
Deputies initially responded to a call about an intoxicated man outside the Walmart. According to Greenville County Master Deputy Jonathan Smith, the first officer to arrive found the man acting “erratically” outside the store. When he approached the suspect, the man allegedly repeated “I’m 911” before walking inside the store.
After a second deputy arrived, the decided to enter the store and arrest the man. Allegedly, the suspect resisted so much that officers had to use tasers in order to arrest him–but it was what happened after they shocked the man into submission that has shoppers up in arms.
In video captured by witnesses, the officers can be seen on top of the man, one holding him down and the other repeatedly punching him.
“Please don’t punch him like that. Please don’t. Don’t punch him no more,” one shopper yelled at the deputies. One witness, David Chimera, told WSPA “There were a lot of women in tears saying ‘hey, stop stop.” He added, “There was no call for that, I don’t know why they did it.”
After this brutal scene, the man was taken to an area hospital for observation.
Smith said that investigators are reviewing the cell phone videos as well as security camera footage.

This seems to be quite a harsh punishment for being a little tipsy. There are many good police officers in the world, but these two “gentlemen” are not among them. Seventeen blows to the head of a suspect that is on the ground and without a weapon is disgustingly unnecessary–even if he was shopping at Walmart.
Recently, police gunned down an African-American Walmart shopper in an open carry state because he was walking around with an air rifle he planned to buy.
All we can say at this point is that this guy was lucky he was white — Otherwise, they may have “served and protected” him into a casket.
