In an encouraging development for embattled women’s health facilities in Texas, the Perot Foundation of Dallas has announced that it will donate one million dollars to Planned Parenthood of Greater Texas.
It’s been well-known that the Perot Foundation has long supported issues regarding women’s health in Texas, being a regular donor to Planned Parenthood for over 20 years and even establishing its own health organization called The Margot Perot Center for Women and Infants.
Ross Perot is a Texas Businessman and was a presidential candidate in 1992 and 1996. Margot Perot is his wife.
“For nearly 100 years Planned Parenthood has helped to educate men and women regarding family planning and general family health,” Margot Perot said in a statement. “Our family has supported this nonprofit for many years because we are impressed with the work they do — providing birth control, scientifically-based education, breast health exams, and basic life-saving healthcare for women who cannot afford services otherwise.”
The CEO of Planned Parenthood released a statement thanking the foundation:
We are thrilled that this generous gift will enable us to continue providing basic, preventative health care. Thanks to the generosity of the Perot Foundation and other community members, Planned Parenthood is proud to be here for the Texans who count on us, no matter what.
