Phil Robertson Fired From Duck Dynasty For Disgusting Homophobic Comments in GQ Interview

Phil Robertson, patriarch of the family which has made a fortune from their duck hunting gear and the T.V. show Duck Dynasty, made some over the top remarks about gays and lesbians in an interview with GQ.  His remarks prompted GLAAD to issue a statement saying that his remarks were, “the vilest and most extreme statements uttered against LGBT people in a mainstream publication.”

He didn’t start out at the beginning disparaging the homosexual community, first he explained how God gave animals to us so that we could kill them all just, well, because.  “The Almighty gave us this. Genesis 9 is where the animals went wild, and God gave them wildness. After the flood, that’s when he made animals wild. Up until that time, everybody was vegetarian. After the flood, he said, ‘I’m giving you everything now. Animals are wild.’”

In his GQ article Drew Magary says of Robertson, “Phil calls himself a Bible-thumper, and holy shit, he thumps that Bible hard enough to ring the bell at a county-fair test of strength.”  He admits that Robertson felt “a little too free,” without the A&E cameras around to speak out on things that would not make the cut on his T.V. show, things like:
“It seems like, to me, a vagina—as a man—would be more desirable than a man’s anus. That’s just me. I’m just thinking: There’s more there! She’s got more to offer. I mean, come on, dudes! You know what I’m saying? But hey, sin: It’s not logical, my man. It’s just not logical.”
Later on he says that, “Everything is blurred on what’s right and what’s wrong.  Sin becomes fine.”
Going on he elaborated:
“Start with homosexual behavior and just morph out from there. Bestiality, sleeping around with this woman and that woman and that woman and those men.”  he then paraphrased Corinthians: “Don’t be deceived. Neither the adulterers, the idolaters, the male prostitutes, the homosexual offenders, the greedy, the drunkards, the slanderers, the swindlers—they won’t inherit the kingdom of God. Don’t deceive yourself. It’s not right.”
Magary says of Phil’s own sins, which include having had to flee the state of Arkansas in the 70s to avoid arrest after he severely beat a bar owner and his wife (he bought them off by turning over most of his life savings to them), “As far as Phil is concerned, he was literally born again. Old Phil — the guy with the booze and the pills — died a long time ago, and New Phil sees no need to apologize for him.”
Robertson himself claims:
“We never, ever judge someone on who’s going to heaven, hell. That’s the Almighty’s job. We just love ’em, give ’em the good news about Jesus — whether they’re homosexuals, drunks, terrorists. We let God sort ’em out later, you see what I’m saying?”
GLAAD is not impressed.  Wilson Cruz, spokesperson for the group said, “Phil and his family claim to be Christian, but Phil’s lies about an entire community fly in the face of what true Christians believe.”
Cruz said in a statement issued by GLAAD, “He clearly knows nothing about gay people or the majority of Louisianans – and Americans – who support legal recognition for loving and committed gay and lesbian couples. Phil’s decision to push vile and extreme stereotypes is a stain on A&E and his sponsors who now need to reexamine their ties to someone with such public disdain for LGBT people and families.”
GLAAD has reached out to the A&E network and requested to discuss Robertson’s remarks.
UPDATE:  In light of his recent comments Phil Robertson has been removed from the Duck Dynasty show indefinitely.

About Bob Cull

I'm retired and live in the Finger Lakes region of Upstate NY. I have strong opinions and my political bent has not changed since I was in high school. Most of my family thinks that I need to find a "real" hobby to fill my time in retirement, but I am content to share my opinions with others and exercise my "right" as a cranky old retired dude to express my views--which are based on many years of real world experience.

  1. Gays ares one the most intolerant people around. Everyone else has to let everyone else have their opinions but as soon as an opinion doesn’t match up with theirs they think you should be cast out. What about tolerance even gays have to tolerate people who don’t like them. He never said anything about harming them. So it’s okay for them to think beings gay is okay but it’s not okay for someone to have a equal opposite belief in thinking homosexuality is wrong? I personally think homosexuality is immoral but I really don’t care what others do in their private lives. Also I think most denominations of Christianity are misguided in the idea of “acceptance”. Everyone in this country is entitled to their beliefs besides child molesters, they are definitely going to burn in hell.

    • “So it’s okay for them to think beings gay is okay but it’s not okay for someone to have a equal opposite belief in thinking homosexuality is wrong?”

What do you think of blue eyes, Sir Lord? Are they “okay?” How about brown skin? Red hair? Any of the differences we are all born with, are you the arbiter of which differences are morally acceptable?

Gays are NOT recruited, they are not created later in life, they are BORN GAY. What makes you think that you have the right to call them immoral because they were born gay?

  2. Old Phil Robertson had a swamp,
    B-I-G-O-T.

And on his swamp he hated gays,
    B-I-G-O-T.

    With a bible verse here,
    And a sermon there,
Here a verse, there a verse,
    Everywhere a verse verse,

Old Phil Robertson had a swamp,
    B-I-G-O-T.

Old Phil Robertson had a swamp,
    B-I-G-O-T.

And on his swamp he had some blacks,
    B-I-G-O-T.

    With a “thank you” here,
    And a “whip me” there,
Here a thanks, there a thanks,
    Everywhere a whip whip.

Old Phil Robertson had a swamp,
    B-I-G-O-T.

  3. These are his beliefs. I did not read that he passed judgement or felt gays and lesbians should be rounded up and killed. I believe he said that was for God to sort out. I simply think people should be more tolerant both ways. Gays and lesbians cannot expect the entire world to accept their lifestyle. Likewise, if you disagree with the gay/lesbian lifestyle, you should not wish physical harm to them and anyone’s opinion is just that…an opinion. No one should lose their job because of an opinion. A gay or lesbian is equally as bigoted as the bigot against them if they speak equally as ill. Just sayin…

  4. Does anyone know what the word judging means? It doesn’t mean pointing out sin. Judgment means I make a call on where your life is headed. Phil made no judgment call. He simply gave his biblical opinion of homosexuality. If a gay person were to be asked their opinion on heterosexuals I’m pretty sure they we get laughs and claps and “good for yous” but the minute a smart (look at his company people the man built a future billion dollar company by hand) and loving (watch the show and read his book) Christian gives his opinion he is a bigot and a liar. Christians are far more persecuted than gays anymore. What happened to freedom of religion? Oh that stands for “Freedom of Islam” now.

    • You didn’t really say anything that STUPID! Did you, Steven? Tell me, when was the last time you heard a homosexual say anything remotely like that about heterosexuals? Let me save you the trouble — NEVER! Unlike so many of us they accept the fact that we are not the same as them! Before you reach up your backside for the next stupid remark, NO, THEY DID NOT CHOOSE TO BE GAY, THEY WERE BORN GAY.

  5. The ignorance burns. When a man states that his God says not to judge others then makes these vial remarks about a community of people the hypocrisy is palpable. New meaning to the word “quack”.

  6. I guess “free speech” is okay to right wingers, so long as if it is not against their racist bigotry, of their fundamental religious rhetoric and hatred of a race or lifestyle, it’s okay.

  7. Santa has been watching you t6o see if you’ve been naughty or nice. He sees that you are all sick in the head. Advocating people be lined up and executed. Don’t expect a lump of coal either because O has put an end to that.

  8. I love how people just intermix the Old and New Testaments. In the Old Testament, God was a stern and vengeful God with these TEN RULES nobody could follow 100%.

At the Last Supper, Christ said to eat of this bread and drink of this wine because it represented his flesh and blood. He also said it heralded a NEW COVENANT (Christ’s words). It’s interesting that he chose the word: Covenant. Christ said, eating of his (symbolic) flesh and blood heralded a New Covenant. This means that God was no longer a stern and vengeful God but a forgiving and loving God. The “New Covenant” would be based on Christ’s teachings. This meant that everything previous was null and void; it was a new Covenant.

Where does Christ say to discriminate against ANYBODY? To me, he does a lot of healing and bringing people together. All of that stuff is in the Old Testament. But there is a “New Covenant” based upon Christ.

    • You have made a very profound observation. How many times have you heard or read “Keep Christ In Christmas” in the last month. How about “Keep Christ in Christianity.” It is amazing to me that a lot of “saved” souls out there must harken back to the “Book of War” aka the Old Testament to find justification for their judgmental bigoted ways. His new book is the “Book of Peace.” Jesus tells us “I am the light and the way.” He gives us a new set of “Commandments” to live by. We are incapable of living by those rules. Love, forgiveness, charity, compassion, not being judgmental and the most difficult of all TURN THE OTHER CHEEK.

I wish people were more impressed with Jesus’ humanity and not so inspired by his divinity. They might realize that Heaven is attainable on Earth. He gave us the path back to the Garden. If he was sacrificed as payment for original sin, and the penalty for that sin was banishment from Eden, why are we waiting to get to heaven for our “reward.” We can make it here and now. He gave us the way.

I think as He hung on the cross and whispered the words “Forgive them Father, they know not what they do,” He was not referring to the Romans whom had crucified him, but for us.

      • You need to do a little biblical research. 1. Christianity is a sect of Judaism. Meaning the Torah still applies to us because we are still Jews we just believe the messiah has come and is Lord. 2. The NT speaks against homosexuality as well. 3. He was speaking of the Jews . 4. Jesus speaks of a new heaven and new earth so clearly this is not heaven on earth. We are still a fallen world.

      • I like what Smith & Lane have to say; in fact it has been exactly what I’ve believed all my life. Very happy to see there are others who think as I do. Thank you for making my day!

  9. When conservatives complain about the trash that offends them on tv liberals tell them: “If you don’t like then don’t watch.” Good advice for everyone I guess.

  10. He is free to say what he wants, But freedom to say something, does NOT mean its smart, right, or necessary to say it. And there are consequences for saying some things. Thats the LAW of life.

  11. I didn’t expect any different from a group of ignorant trash. Time to cancel this “reality” show entirely and move on.

    • if you dont want to hear the truth dont ask a christian now whos the ignorant trash rusty gays should be lined up and shot

      • Ignorant and intolerant jerks like you Rick should be shot in my opinion. Christians are the biggest liars and hypocrites. I just love how they reek havoc then suddenly find Jesus and act like they are so pure. Shit I grew up Catholic was never in trouble with the law. I did not have to find God because he has never left me nor I him. It’s best not to ask a Christian anything because they know nothing least of all the truth. I can’t stand anyone who is ignorant and intorlerant and hides behind God. Go to hell where you belong!!!

      • You seem to be very ignorant yourself. BTW what is a “rusty gay” and why should they be shot?

        • I believe rick has no concept of punctuation. I believe if his comment looked like this it would be easier to understand. Ignorant, but easier to understand-” If you dont want to hear the truth, don’t ask a Christian. Now who’s the ignorant trash Rusty? Gays should be lined up and shot.”

      • Wait so someone is wrong for putting their response opinion to what Phil says, and for that, all LGBT people need to be lined up and shot. Yes so we really need to go to you for a logical out come. No! You sound like Hitler! I am not of the LGBT but the truth is clearly not coming from anyone who violates the Bible belief of not judging, and God’s words of love your neighbor. Phil has the right to state his opinion but you sound nutts rick.

      • Who else should be lined up and shot due to an accident of birth, Ricky? People with brown eyes? How about blacks? Maybe we should line up the ignorant, that is an actual choice, but don’t worry, we’ll give you the benefit of the doubt and assume that you are just stupid and not ignorant, the former can’t be fixed, the latter can.

      • I’ll bet “ricky” drives a big ‘ole’ pick-up truck and thinks he’s super macho. His attitude just SCREAMS “I have a tiny penis!” and, like most baggers he can’t spell or think worth a damn. BTW “Ricky” most christians wouldn’t know the TRUTH if it bit them in the azz.

  12. With God’s grace and a little luck, this clown will never have another moment of air time.

  13. Another so-called christian….. quaking around…
Perhaps it’ll be a good thing to make the reference to a duck next time some fool makes statements about homosexuality and homosexual people….. quack quack……

This so-called christian states that everyone prior to The Flood were supposedly vegetarians.
Question arises.. how does he know? Was he there at the time? Was he witness to the fact of everyone being vegetarian? Probably not, although with the state his braincells obviously are in,one could suspect it……

Then the quoted words that god (whomever that is…) said that animals went wild…….
Again a question arises…… who said god said that? Nobody has seen any writing, been able to listen to any tape, nor seen any video that shows such a thing…….. Only one book (in many languages translated for convenience of people) says that someone referred to as god supposedly said such a thing….. A book we know as the bible. A book that was written in the 3d century after jesus lived, and was compiled of a lot of ancient tales and stories……..
That same book states that the downfall of humans was caused by eating an apple, and that the animal whispering to the woman to eat the apple was punished by loosing its legs and should be moving around on its belly…… (talking about animal cruelty btw….. removing legs from an animal…… Sounds a bit like that god is an animal abuser! A creature that enjoys letting animals suffer!).

Simple solution to the quaking nut… ducktape him, and let him sink in the swamp he seems to be happy in…. a christian…… MA! (and MA! stands for MyAss!)

    • I like how it is the worst thing in the world that he stated his opinion, but you feel it is just fine to say we should kill him….. Way to differentiate yourself fror the opposition.

      • I did not say that we’d kill him, nor did I call for killing him (though I would not regret seeing him sink into the bigot-swamp…), and even these types of creatures have the right to speak their opinion (as I have stated elsewhere), fact is also that ALL have that right……. But no, I would call for killing him, having him killed or his death……
