There is a picture that has gone viral showing members of Duke’s basketball team posing, all holding assault rifles.
It turns out that the athletes had traveled to West Point, their coach’s alma mater, and enjoyed some target practice.
The Blue Devils are always a powerhouse in college basketball. Now they are packing power, so to speak.
Boys will be boys, as they say. And there is no evidence that the team did not treat the weapons properly. But Duke teams usually enjoy celebrity and wide media attention. Many players are respected, followed and admired. How much cooler are guns in the hands of a winning basketball team?
The photo was on the Facebook page of one of the players, which isn’t necessarily the most private venue.
The 2nd Amendment does not limit sensible dialogue about guns and gun safety. Nowhere is it written that rifles have to be glorified, not to mention the fact that rights aren’t abridged when common sense requirements are set forth.
Duke: the team is looking good. Perhaps the next photo op is with a basketball?
