This will likely not surprise anyone, but Eric Frein, the man who was finally captured following the shooting of two Pennsylvania state troopers, one of whom died, is a rabid survivalist attempting to use violence to “wake up” Americans so that they can finally jump on the revolution train.
Frein led law enforcement on a 48-day manhunt, during which he hid in the woods as he continually eluded capture. When he was finally caught, he said that his purpose was similar to that of Jerad and Amanda Miller, the Tea Partiers and former Bundy Ranch denizens who embarked on a murder spree that began with killing two police officers.
In addition to his initial allegations of first-degree murder and other related charges, Frein has been charged with two counts of terrorism because of his admission that he intended to use the violent act to influence government policy.
According to court documents, Frein explained his motive in a letter written by this right-wing terrorist to his parents. “Our nation is far from what it was and what it should be,” the letter reads. “There is so much wrong and on so many levels only passing through the crucible of another revolution can get us back the liberties we once had.”
“Tension is high at the moment and the time seems right for a spark to ignite a fire in the hearts of men. What I have done has not been done before and it felt like it was worth a try,” he added.
Frein is due for a preliminary hearing next month. If convicted, prosecutors will be asking that Frein be executed.
