Ahhh, Guns Save Lives Day — a day when we can kick back and honor the memory of the Newtown victims by celebrating the reason they are all dead!
The founder of the Second Amendment Foundation, Alan Gottlieb, joined Piers Morgan for a tense and utterly uncomfortable 9 minutes and 11 seconds of douchebaggery.
Gottlieb kicked things off by sidestepping Morgan’s accusation that pressure from Newtown families and social media (NOT conscience) has prompted him to move Guns Save Lives day to the day after the Newtown massacre that left 26 dead. Gottlieb insisted that it was moved to Bill of Rights Day (December 15th) so that their “message would be loud and clear.” He also expressed hope that the anti-gun movement would back off, as well.
Morgan replied that this has nothing to do with the Bill of Rights, or they would have made it that day to start with. Piers began to read a letter from Erica Lafferty, the daughter of a slain Newtown principal:
“December 14 is a sacred day for Newtown families. It should be about our loved ones, not this disgusting political stunt. These people will be trampling on the graves of the innocent children and educators who were murdered that day–“
At this point, Piers had to stop reading–BECAUSE GOTTLIEB WAS F**KING LAUGHING! “Why are you laughing?” Morgan asked. Gottlieb explained that he was laughing at a letter from someone who lost her mother to gun violence because her claims were “totally over the top.”
Morgan, however, was not going to take any of this gun nut’s crap:
“Wait a minute, you plan a campaign to promote the good side of guns on the first anniversary of the worst mass shooting at a school in American history, and you have the gall to laugh when I read out a quote from one of the victims’ families? How dare you!”
Gottlieb attempted to deflect, claiming that the “anti-gun movement” was politicizing the Newtown shooting (gee, you mean a terrible mass school shooting inspired people to speak out against guns?) but Morgan interrupted him again:
This is a family member! This is the daughter the principal of the school who was killed! How dare you laugh!
Gottlieb opted for the “I have a black friend” defense, pointing out that he has children and grandchildren, and added “But that doesn’t allow them to use that day, either, to attack [his] rights.” He went on to say that they have backed off, and asked of the “anti-gun movement” would back off.
Morgan shot back:
“Oh, I won’t back off people like you, Mister Gottlieb, trust me.”
Gottlieb continued, “I bet you’ll use December 14th to push your anti-gun agenda!”
Piers, unwilling to allow this idiot to trivialize his concerns, fired back lividly:
“You’re damn right I’ll use that day to promote gun safety, Mr. Gottlieb. And I’ll do it on behalf of these families.”
Piers asked Gottleib how many gun murders a year there are in Britain–something Gottleib was not able to answer, simply accusing Piers of not having accurate data.
Piers pointed out that 35 people on average a year are killed by guns in Britain. In America, it’s 11-12,000.
“And do you know the reason so many people get killed by guns in America? Because idiots like you–and I use that word very deliberately–think it’s funny to laugh in the middle of me reading out a statement from the victims’ families at Sandy Hook.”
