Now-former Sirius XM shock jock Anthony Cumia, one of the hosts of the Opie and Anthony Show, is no stranger to making offensive jokes and is certainly used to being repeatedly suspended for his comments, but he finally went too far for his employer.
Cumia was taking pictures in Times Square when he caught an African American woman who objected to being photographed in the frame. She chose to express her discontent by punching Cumia, who responded by calling her a “cunt.”
While no one should attack another human being, but what Cumia did next is disgusting by anyone’s (with the exception of the stupid part of America) standards: he engaged in an hours-long bigoted tirade against not only that woman, but the entire African American community.
Cumia was shocked–SHOCKED–to discover that his employer chose to terminate him over his hateful rant after his refusal to so much as apologize.
There we have it: He took a picture of her. She reacted immaturely and hit him, then he made the situation worse by calling her a “cunt,” five others got involved because it was a fight between a man and a woman, and he chose to then rail against all black people because one person responded immaturely to his photographing her. Cumia then called her every slur his tiny mind could dredge up, and referred to her as an animal who should be killed — but he’s a “good guy” because he’s a white gun owner.
Given the degree of racism and sexism, we can expect to hear about his “First Amendment right” to be an asshole for a week, just as we did with Donald Sterling.
Coward that he is, Cumia has deleted the tweets that led to his termination. It is unknown if his former co-host Gregg “Opie” Hughes” will continue the show without Cumia. The two have been together for two decades.
