What happens when black people do an open carry march? Folks in Dallas, Texas will soon find out.
After decades of escalating police brutality and months of watching insane white open carry ammosexuals swaggering around Dallas and other cities across the U.S. with their
teeny weenies big guns on display, some black people have had enough.
WFAA reports that on Wednesday, August 20, around 30 African-Americans gathered to march through a neighborhood in South Dallas open carry style. The group carried guns, wore all black, and included members of The Dallas New Black Panther Party and the Huey P. Newton Gun Club.
The demonstration went peacefully and without any negative incidents, unless you count a few startled reactions from passers-by. But how long will that last?
A woman visiting a nearby restaurant with her son told reporters:
“He was kind of scared. We didn’t know what was going on.”
If whites can open carry, so can black people. Right?
Event organizer Charles Goodson says what’s sauce for the goose is sauce for the gander:
“Open Carry Texas all the time gets a pass. We hope that the same applies to us, and there is no contradiction from the Dallas power structure.”
However, these open carry demonstrators care a lot more about addressing racial profiling and harassment and abuse of black people by police than they do about the second Amendment.
Goodson points out that Michael Brown’s summary execution is part of a pattern, and lists three black men recently murdered by Dallas police officers.
“A lot of people today are talking about Mike Brown. Mike Brown is not an isolated incident. We have many ‘Mike Browns’ in the City of Dallas. Clint Allen was a Mike Brown. Tobias Mackey was a Mike Brown. Bobby Walker was a Mike Brown.”
Here’s the video with the news report from WFAA:
Here at AATTP, we disapprove of open carry demonstrations, mainly because we dislike guns and the possibility of people shooting at us.
But we’ve also got to say… These crazy, gun-wielding, secessionist, teabagger sovereign citizens have had it coming. If it’s okay for white people like Cliven Bundy to take up arms against our “tyrannical” U.S. government, then it’s only a short logical leap to say it’s okay for black people to defend themselves against our nation’s oppressive, racist, and overly-militarized police.
Especially, since black people have way more reason to fear police than white people have to fear the U.S. government.
As events surrounding the execution of Michael Brown come to a boil — the proverbial chickens are coming home to roost. Disenfranchised through GOP vote rigging and voter suppression, harassed and brutalized by police, slammed by income inequality and the sluggish economic recovery, and menaced by the looming hydra head of resurgent racism, some black people feel they need to take things into their own hands.
Nor did the folks from Open Carry Texas endear themselves to blacks when they tried to march through an African-American neighborhood in Houston — on Juneteenth, no less! — and then protested by eating fried chicken and and holding up “Gun Control=Slavery” signs in front of their congresswoman’s office when the community opposed their creepy cracker crawl.
Thanks to decades of right-wingers ceaselessly fomenting fear and bigotry, their paranoid fantasies are finally coming true.
