The folks at open carry aren’t the brightest colors in the crayon box, but they are the most self-righteous. They see themselves as the ultimate protectors of Second Amendment, which is perhaps the only Amendment in the Bill of Rights except the Tenth that’s not under assault now because of religious or corporate special interests. You can draw comparisons between their struggle against imaginary forces striving to repeal the Second Amendment and the right-wing Christian fight against their secular boogiemen like GLBT rights.
Because they’re so utterly blinkered by their own imaginary righteousness, they sometimes miss the obvious. For instance, promoting the ownership of firearms by women who used firearms to murder their family.
Moms Demand Action for Gun Sense in America made a post on Facebook today; a screen shot of a meme that OCT shared. Now, there’s nothing out of the ordinary about this meme on the surface; it retreads a tired argument that you’ve probably seen dozens of times before on the Facebook page of the right-winger in your life:
Ignoring the puerile argument they’re making — after all, both of men appear to be some type of security guard, who are probably trained; OCT, meanwhile, gives guns to any yahoo who wants to grope their inner Dirty Harry, and if you can’t tell the difference between arming Sir Breunor le Noir and arming Don Quixote, that’s your problem, not mine — take a closer look at the picture they chose. MDA did, and note that this is what happens to your sense of perception on self-righteousness:
OCT, as Moms Demand Action noted, yanked the meme quickly; it vanished down the memory hole, and they haven’t said a peep about it since.
Meanwhile, that picture they used? It’s featured rather prominently on the initial AATTP report I liked to above. OCT women may be able to protect themselves, but who protects their families?
