EDITOR’S NOTE: As of 5/99/14 we are so happy to announce that — because of all of you — Wayde has actually surpassed his $10,000 goal! He left this note on his GoFundMe page:
[box type=”shadow”]”When you can’t run, you crawl. And when you can’t crawl, when you can’t do that you find someone to carry you.” – blatantly stolen Firefly quote.
I’m lucky enough to have found hundreds of people willing to help carry me. I don’t have the words to convey the gratitude I feel for this. Thank you seems to fall short of conveying my gratitude for the kindness and generosity that I’m being showered with from all over the world. Social media gets a bad rap for causing a disconnect and encouraging folks to avoid actual human interaction. This week, the wonderful people in this community have shown that the opposite can be true. In a big way.
It’s been almost 2 years since I ran across one of Chest Strongwell’s posts, making me laugh until tears were streaming down my face. That was my introduction to the virtual world of Trollandia. I always considered these funny, informative, and entertaining people to be like superheroes. With secret identities, they travel the interwebs, righting wrongs and making people smile. Even with Facebook choking off reach for pages, these heroes have made my call for help go viral. Thank you to everyone that shared, commented, and liked. You proved that Zuckerberg can’t stop the signal.
To everyone that was able to chip in, I thank you. Stress kicks my condition’s issues into overdrive. There’s much less of that now, because of you.
To everyone that took the time to send a message of support or make a comment, thank you. Your words have made my wife, kid, and me smile so many times. My cat is pretty smitten with you, too.
To Thomas, my oldest friend in this community, I thank you. You took the Gofundme campaign and ran with it, tirelessly working to organize and spread the word.
To Americans Against the Tea Party, for putting together that article, saying such nice things about me, and putting my campaign in front of hundreds of thousands of people, thank you.
This is just a start. By my calculations, I have a few lifetimes worth of paying it forward to get to. I just found the ‘send thank you’ button on Gofundme, and everyone will be getting a personal thank you when I can get back online tonight. My page is in good hands, some of those superheroes I talked about earlier will be taking the reins in my absence. I’m in good hands, too. I have the entire internet carrying me through this.
I love you all.
For a long time, many people have been wondering if there was something wrong inside the head of the administrator of the Facebook page, Barack Obama’s Werewolf Army. Unfortunately, the answer is “yes,” and it’s not simply the mere insanity of spending one’s day mercilessly smacking down right-wingers. Wayde Erb is a troll (and that, friends, is a term of endearment) who spends a considerable amount of his free time destroying right-wingers with his humorous takedowns of their insanity.
Many of you may not be familiar with the much-loved Facebook “troll,” but here at AATTP we could not be bigger fans. For the uninitiated, here are just a few examples of BOWA’s awesomeness:
Recently, we received some disheartening news.
Wayde Erb himself explained his situation in more detail on a GoFundMe page he started as a “last resort” in handling his expenses, in which he asks for some financial assistance in removing the colloid cyst.
[box type=”shadow”]”Hello everyone, my name is Wayde. I’m the mouthy fella behind BOWA and Beaks Mceagle on Facebook. Nearly six years ago, I had brain surgery to remove a colloid cyst. This is a benign brain tumor that typically grows in the third ventricle. As far as brain tumors go, it’s one of the better ones to have, I guess. That’s only in relation to the cancerous ones that spread, though. A colloid cyst tends to block the flow of cerebro-spinal fluid through the brain, causing hydrocephalus. Long story short, they plucked it out endoscopically and I was supposed to be done with it aside from the ventricular drain/conversation piece that looks like a little horn. I’m sure this confirms the suspicions of many people that I do, in fact, have something wrong in my head.
A couple weeks ago, I visited the ER and found out the cyst had regrown. Due to its location, it is causing intermittent confusion, fatigue, right-side weakness that’s similar to a stroke, and legendary headaches.
I’m an IT consultant by trade. Having a tired, confused person working on servers and interacting with clients doesn’t fill my boss with confidence that I won’t go full potato and really screw something up. They can’t be expected to pay me to sit around and wait for the glacial wheels at Blue Cross to turn. I have about a week’s worth of vacation time left and a month or more before surgery can happen. Once it does, the hospital stay and copays are likely going to rival my wife’s student loan debt.
The past few years have been a struggle to keep our heads above water, mostly from financially recovering from the last surgery’s expenses. We were making it, though barely. Every option has been exhausted and everything with monetary value has been sold. This is my last resort. Thank you for reading.”[/box]
This awful development spurred on a surprising amount of support in the liberal Facebook troll community! The awfulness of it all was matched by the generosity and love shown by fans, friends, and others who simply wanted to help out! So far, the GoFundMe page has raised more than $4,300 in one day to help Wayde with medical bills, with many donors leaving some very touching wellwishings.
Wayde, we want to thank you for your devotion to making us laugh — and, of course, for knocking right-wingers down a notch…or seven. AATTP wishes you a speedy recovery so that you may re-enter the battlefield and continue to slay conservative misinformation with your devastating wit. The internet is not the same with you on the sidelines, and we love you for everything you have done.
If you are able, click here to donate to Wayde’s GoFundMe page, because after all, we’re liberals and helping each other out is what we do when we can.
