Sonny Thomas, the President and Founder of the Springboro, Ohio Tea Party stunned local residents with a racist rant at a school board meeting in which he also unfurled a Confederate Flag.
According to a resident in attendance, Thomas told listeners that blacks in this country should, “should consider themselves lucky since they are treated better in the United States than they would be if they were in ‘Black countries’ with ‘genocide.’”
Thomas also invoked the racist neo-Confederate group, “The League Of The South,” which according to the Southern Poverty Law Center is,
“…a neo-Confederate group that advocates for a second Southern secession and a society dominated by “European Americans.” The league believes the “godly” nation it wants to form should be run by an “Anglo-Celtic” (read: white) elite that would establish a Christian theocratic state and politically dominate blacks and other minorities. Originally founded by a group that included many Southern university professors, the group lost its Ph.D.s as it became more explicitly racist. The league denounces the federal government and northern and coastal states as part of “the Empire,” a materialist and anti-religious society.”
Thomas was defending “Constitution classes” that had been under consideration by the district. The school board cancelled the classes, when allegations arose that the classes were religious “tea party leaning.”
Gee I wonder why? Could it be because the President of the Springboro School board Kelly Kohls, is also the head of the Warren County Tea Party?
Another resident who attended the meeting, William Cunningham, wrote about the incident on the Facebook page Springboro United for Responsible Education.
“If the discussion in the community has come down to some man waving the ‘stars and bars’ during a public forum on education while shouting, ‘This is your heritage!’ at the audience is not only appalling, it is downright awful,’” Cunningham wrote.
This isn’t the Tea Partier’s first racist rodeo. Back in April of 2010, Thomas tweeted “Illegals everywhere today! So many sp— make me feel like a speck. Grrr. Where’s my gun?!” Thomas blamed the Bee-Gees. Seriously.
The Springboro district is awash in backward racist, and crazy anti-science nonsense. In May, the board made headlines again for considering a proposal that would allow the district to teach creationism.
So we have a Tea Partier, waving the confederate flag and yelling, “This is your heritage,” at a school board meeting in which the President of the School Board is also the President of The Warren County Tea Party.
Here’s a video from WHIO TV about the school board’s insane proposal to teach religion instead of science:
