As the grand jury prepares to, likely, give Officer Darren Wilson a pass for the murder of unarmed African-American teenager Michael Brown, Wilson is planning his cut and run strategy. Wilson, for whom the Ku Klux Klan and other groups have raised more than $500,000 is in talks with officials regarding his desire to resign after the decision is announced.
Good-guy Wilson maintains his innocence, but says that he will resign to protect his fellow officers. Wilson claims that he will not resign while the Grand Jury is deliberating because he does not want to appear to be admitting fault for his decision to pull the trigger and fire on Brown at a distance. Wilson could announce his resignation as soon as Friday.
CNN reports that if the Grand Jury returns charges, Wilson could change his mind. Were Wilson to choose to return to duty he would be required to undergo two psychological evaluations. If the Grand Jury returns a decision on Friday, prosecutors are expected to provide police with 48 hours notice before making an announcement.
Officer Wilson has no disciplinary actions on file, but was terminated from the Jennings, Missouri Police Department after it was disbanded because of rampant racism and corruption. Video has also recently tarnished Darren Wilson’s “good guy” image. Wilson was recently shown arresting a man simply for filming him in his own yard.
If Wilson is not indicted, he will have about a half-million dollars with which he can go enjoy himself as Ferguson rebuilds and suffers for his actions. Isn’t “justice” a wonderful thing?
