Oliver North, the military official who played a significant role in the Iran-Contra scandal cover-up, appeared on Fox News to discuss the Obama administration’s alleged cover-up of the U.S. embassy attacks in Benghazi in 2012.
During the ironic segment, North explained that the administration “falsified talking points provided to people who were going to speak publicly about it” following the attacks and manipulated the Accountability Review Board report, which came out months later in an attempt to avoid political accountability.
North then went on to criticize Ambassador Thomas Pickering and Admiral Mike Mullen, who headed the review, saying that they lacked “integrity.”
What’s interesting about having a figure like North comment on the moral implications of an alleged cover-up is that his actions during the Reagan Administration were much more egregious. North was convicted of three out of 16 counts for his role in the Iran-Contra scandal, which included accepting an illegal gratuity, aiding and abetting in the obstruction of a congressional inquiry, and ordering the destruction of documents.
