Still think both political parties are the same? The video with Barack Obama’s latest weekly address (below) may change your mind. After five years of treating Republicans with courtesy and a willingness to compromise on “bipartisan solutions,” the president has finally had enough.
While everyday Americans struggle to keep a roof over our heads, children crowd our borders to escape the unspeakable violence caused by our “War on Drugs,” and climate change threatens life on Earth as we know it, Republicans in Congress have nothing better to do than wage a frivolous lawsuit against our president for issuing a perfectly-legal, mere handful of executive orders.
As far as these cruel, hypocritical, Koch-sucking Republican @ssholes in Congress are concerned, there’s no room in our federal budget for rebuilding and educating America, feeding our hardworking citizens and their families, housing the homeless, regulating the rapacious banking and dirty energy industries, or lending a helping hand to stricken child refugees. But we’ve always got plenty of funds for bullsh*t investigations, frivolous lawsuits, corporate bailouts, Obamacare repeal attempts, filibusters, denying people their civil rights, and waging expensive wars on false pretenses.
F*ck you, Republicans and your so-called “compassionate conservatism.” Despite your hero George W. Bush’s claims, conservatism is a vicious, inhumane philosophy that elevates the rich and powerful, and crushes everyone else. You lie, you cheat, you screw your own constituents, and you’re all stick and no carrot.
Why would anyone in their right mind even vote for you? Oh yeah, many of us are not in our right minds. 1.7 million of us say we get our information from Fox “News” and more of us likely do without realizing it. Meanwhile, the other “News” stations — CNN, ABC, CBS, and NBC — falsely give equal airtime and validity to the TEApublicans’ crackpot theories, medievalesque political positions, and obstruction so they’ll seem “fair and balanced.”
Obama starts by talking about a college student he met who struggles, along with her middle-class parents, to pay for her education:
“She says she feels not significant enough to be addressed, not poor enough for people to worry about, and not rich enough to be cared about.”
The president mentions how workers’ pay has stalled and how most of us have not benefited from our so-called economic “recovery,” and then lays the blame squarely where it belongs: On a Koch-sucking GOP-led Congress that serves its wealthy masters instead of the American people.
“So far this year, Republicans in Congress have blocked every serious idea about strengthening the middle class: Lifting the minimum wage, fair pay, student loan reform, they’ve said no to all of it.”
Obama goes on to defend his use of executive orders — even though he has every right to make them and has issued fewer of them than any other U.S. president.
“And that’s when I’ve acted this year to help working Americans on my own, when Congress won’t act. I’ve taken actions to attract new jobs, lift workers’ wages, help students pay off their loans, and more.”
And, finally, Obama lashes out at these so-called cost-conscious Republican hypocrites for wasting tax dollars on a frivolous lawsuit instead of helping struggling Americans.
“And the Republican plan right now is not to do some of this work with me. Instead, it’s to sue me. That’s actually what they’re spending their time on. It’s a political stunt that’s going to waste months of America’s time. And by the way, they’re going to pay for it using your hard-earned tax dollars.
I have a better idea: Do something, Congress. Do anything to help working Americans. Join the rest of the country. Join me — I’m looking forward to working with you.”
