Take note, fellow liberals, the GOTea gum-grabbers are coming for us.
Never ones to shy away from taking any opportunity they can to turn Obama into history’s greatest monster, the crack reporters of the political right have unearthed Obama’s greatest political sin to date: he dared chew gum during the D-Day ceremony.
Compounding the insult, he was chewing gum while applauding the arrive of Her Royal Highness Queen Elizabeth the II. This slap in the face to our allies is surely on a level far greater than the “freedom fries,” because nobody cares what the French think, right?
It turns out that it was the French who noted it first on Twitter, before it found its way onto the Newsmax feed. The French weren’t amused in their tweets, calling Obama out for the class act of chewing the gum, but the it took the American right-wing to turn that mole hill into Mt. Everest.
For the French impaired (I count myself among that number) the tweets criticize the president for “peu élégance”, or “little elegance,” for having “pas classe du tout,” or “no class at all,” and “Le chewing gum Obama merde,” which probably doesn’t require a translation. The video of the tragic, America-bashing incident below comes from the Washington Times.
The angry American response was less elegant, despite the fact that English (or whatever passes for it on Twitter) has a more extensive French vocabulary than it does any other language:
Funny he should mention that chewing gum is illegal in Singapore. Do you know what else is illegal in Singapore without a license?
Newsmax also felt it necessary to remind everyone that Obama is a repeat offender in this regard:
[box type=”shadow”]The US leader faced similar attacks on social media after he was seen apparently chewing gum during Nelson Mandela’s funeral in December.
The most powerful man in the world has faced an on-off battle to quit smoking and often chews a nicotine-based gum to drive away the craving.[/box]
Would the more elegant solution be lighting up a cigarette?
