A New York Times report is shedding some disturbing light on the events that led to the death of Michael Brown. The piece reports that after the unarmed teen was gunned down by police in broad daylight, no medical assistance was allowed at the scene, despite a woman reportedly identifying herself as a nurse offering help.
During the shooting, 28-year-old Devin Stone was reportedly home in his apartment, which was across the street from where the confrontation took place. While sitting outside of his building, Stone said that he was “jolted by the sound of two gunshots, followed by several more in rapid succession.” The second series of shots, according to Stone, “sounded automatic.”
When Stone ventured to see what had caused it, he saw two officers, both white men, standing near Brown, who was lying on his stomach with blood seeping from his head. That was where he saw the woman that identified herself as nurse, according to him, begging to perform CPR on Brown. Stone said that the police refused, and added that “they didn’t even check to see if he was breathing.”
Brown ended up dying from the gunshots.
But conservatives have said that’s a-0kay, even if the story above isn’t confirmed. After all, Brown had the temerity to commit the abjectly horrible crime of reportedly stealing cigarettes, a whole carton no less. And then he questioned the officer, and refused to follow orders. He questioned authority! That’s an unforgivable sin, an act so debased and evil it’s on par with genocide, child abuse and murder, depraved murder, and other crimes that warrant the death penalty in a court of law.
It’s a good thing he wasn’t white, and those weren’t millions of taxpayer dollars he was stealing by shoveling into foreign bank accounts. Then he’d have room to complain about maltreatment, you know?
