If you’re having a good day, prepare to have it ruined by yet another example of the tasteless and disgusting lows the NRA will sink to in order to rile its base.
This Thursday, the gun rights group fired off a sloppy tweet that seemingly mocked Gabby Giffords and her 2011 brutal attack:
“Gabby Giffords: Everyone Should Have to Pass Background Check My Attacker Passed,” the tweet read.
From the New York Daily News:
The tweet — intended to show that checks don’t prevent gun violence — linked to an article on the right-leaning Breitbart.com site that notes Jared Loughner, the crazed gunman who nearly killed Giffords in a mass shooting in Tuscon, Ariz., had passed a background check.
The tweet wasn’t a random case of the NRA spouting off. This Wednesday, Giffords joined a bipartisan group of House lawmakers in an effort to reintroduce legislation that requires all gun buyers to pass background checks.
