If Larry Pratt is going to be handing out awards, he might want to take Patrick Sanders into consideration. The HoustonPress reports that the Houston police are investigating a bizarre and apparently accidental shooting, involving a 20-year-old man and a three-year-old toddler. But this one has an M. Night Shyamalan-esque twist.
Patrick Sanders, the 20-year-old, was napping on the couch in the living room of his apartment Sunday morning when the incident occurred, according to police. The gun that Sanders was keeping in his pocket slipped out while he slept, landing on the floor — and into the hands of a three-year-old toddler (HoustonPress says 3 months, Reuters says 3 years; knowing as much about typos as I do, I’m inclined to think “3 months” is a typo).
Sanders awoke to the toddler holding the gun, according to HPD Homicide Division Sergeant R. Rodriguez and W. Gilbert. Sanders tried to grab the gun from the toddler, but in the process, caused the gun to fire.
Sanders was shot in the face, and rushed to Ben Taub General Hospital, where he remains in critical condition.
The toddler was not injured during the incident, according to the police report.
Welcome to the Second Amendment, kid. They start ’em early down in Texas, don’t they?
