A North Carolina mom is accused of locking her two-year-old daughter in a feces-filled dog pen while she searched for a lost ring. Aimee Lynn Brown, 30, of Transylvania County was visiting a friend’s house when she locked her child in the filthy enclosure as she searched for a lost ring.
According to police, the little girl broke free and ran toward the road. “I was inside the house and saw it and I screamed,” said Stephanie Hall, who lives next to the home. “My daughter was here on her lunch break and called the law.” She told FOX 8 that the girl barely missed being hit by traffic on the “crazy busy” Old Henderson Highway. “I’ve never seen anything like that in my life.”
Police say they are unsure how long the child was locked in the pen. Brown has been charged with misdemeanor child abuse and possession of stolen property, as the car she was driving had stolen tags and no insurance.
“I know there have been a number of these in the news recently,” said Brevard Police Chief Phil Harris. “The message to parents is to watch your children…a two-year-old needs supervision at all times.”
The child is being cared for by a grandparent, and Brown is safely locked away in the Transylvania County Jail.
