State Representative of New Mexico, Cathrynn Brown (R- what else?) introduced House Bill 206 which would make women who are victims of rape and incest and as result end up pregnant and have an abortion, felons! Criminals! In addition to wanting to make abortions illegal by completely ignoring the US Supreme Court’s ruling in the case of Roe v. Wade, Representative Brown wants to bypass the Court’s decision and force women to carry the awful and painful reminders of their rape with them for not only the 9 months of pregnancy, but for the rest of their lives by forcing women to give birth to the child!
If a woman in New Mexico were to have an abortion if this bill were to pass, then she would be charged with a third-degree felony of “Tampering With Evidence”. Not only would the woman be charged if she were to have an abortion, but the bill goes on further to charge anyone,…”procuring or facilitating an abortion, or compelling or coercing another to obtain an abortion, of a fetus that is the result of criminal sexual penetration or incest with the intent to destroy evidence of the crime.” This completely insane person, having no business representing ANY citizen of New Mexico, let alone the women of the state, is suggesting that having an abortion due to rape or incest is “destroying evidence!”
I find it appalling as a father, as well as a brother to a sister that in the event of either my daughter or sibling having been raped and as result becoming pregnant, would be considered a felon for terminating her pregnancy legally under US law in the state of New Mexico. How does a woman have the audacity to come up with this completely insane idea that a pregnancy as a result of rape or incest is considered “Evidence”?
If this bill were to pass, and any woman having an abortion after having been raped or having been a victim of incest, she could face a prison sentence of up to three years! It seems as though what State Rep. Brown is saying is that the horrific mental trauma, pain, and anguish, not to mention disgust that the victim must feel isn’t punishment enough! Blaming and punishing victims is a TEApublican pastime.
Why is it that Republicans only care about the Constitution when it so conveniently benefits them, yet are willing to throw it out the window when it doesn’t support their right-wing ideology? Because they’re disgusting degenerate hypocrites, that’s why.
