Hey North Carolina, your racism is showing. A Housing official is under investigation for some insanely bigoted Facebook posts targeting liberals, women, gay people, and, of course, African Americans.
On June 5, in response to a photograph of a Moral Monday protest, Malcolm “Mac” Butner posted, “Gee, they are all black. I guess the white folk could not get off because they were too busy working (and) being productive, good citizens. The primary difference between the leaders of the Confederate States of America and the Union is that Confederate leaders were godly gentlemen and the Union folks were not.”
While the majority of Butner’s Facebook profile has been cleansed, a couple of posts remain. AS ONE MIGHT EXPECT, IT’S A BUNCH OF SIMPLE-MINDED, ALLCAPS WORD SALAD DENIGRATING ‘OUTREACH’ EFFORTS BY UNPRINCIPLED LIBERALS WHO ONLY CATER TO ” LESBOS, QUEERS LIBERALS AND BABY KILLERS.”
The Rowan County Commission has launched an investigation, and has given him the chance to “go ahead and resign,” despite his term ending soon. A racial discrimination complaint has been filed through the Greensboro Field Office of HUD.
Butner, of course, denies the charges. He says his Facebook posts did not involve housing or discrimination against black people, and, “I’m still protected by the First Amendment.”
County Commissioner Craig Pierce says that Butner can not be fired from his appointed position because the posts were made on his personal time. “Until we have something from a department that is requiring or requesting us to take some action, we aren’t in a position to do anything,” he said.
