In this must-watch video report from Bill Moyers, he examines the driving forces behind America’s unprecedented level of economic inequality.
Moyers exposes the striking extremes of wealth and poverty across America, including a report on California’s Silicon Valley, where Apple, Google, and Facebook millionaires and billionaires live in unimaginable opulence while the area’s homeless – who have increased in numbers by 20% in the last two years – look on from “tent cities.”
“A petty, narcissistic, pridefully ignorant politics has come to dominate and paralyze our government,” says Bill, “while millions of people keep falling through the gaping hole that has turned into the United States of Inequality.”
Moyers also examines the tax cuts, loopholes, and subsidies that have allowed America’s wealthiest individuals and corporations to amass unprecedented wealth while the rest of America struggles.
While our economic system and that of other developing countries is skewed to benefit only the very rich, droves of poor Americans are being pushed to the fringes by an uncaring society and political establishment.
While President Obama and the Democratic Party are trying to right the ship by helping the middle class and imploring America’s very wealthy to pay their fair share, the modern-day Republican Party is doing anything in their power to obstruct this progress.
Thankfully, America has a few reporters with integrity left, like Bill Moyers, who refused to promulgate the false media narrative that Americans aren’t suffering.
The truth is, international banks and multinational corporations are sitting on record profits and stashes of cash, refusing to let that money into the general economy in order to help the American middle-class.
While we cannot blame companies for having purely capitalistic concerns, we can blame a complacent government that has allowed corporate welfare to reach near epidemic levels while our social welfare programs and most vulnerable citizens suffer.
