An 84 year-old man was shot and killed by his 11 year-old grandson on Monday during a family dispute in Kittrel, North Carolina. Police report that they were summoned to a fight at a mobile home around 7 p.m. to find Lloyd Woodlief on the floor wounded by the blast of a 12 gauge shotgun. He died a short time later.
According to Vance County Sheriff’s deputies, Woodlief was shot by his grandson during a dispute with the boy’s father, 49 year old Lloyd Peyton Woodlief, prompting the boy to use the shotgun to shoot his grandfather.
Lloyd Peyton Woodlief was being treated at Duke Medical Center and is expected to survive.
The juvenile had apparently fled the home before police arrived but was later apprehended. The juvenile equivalent of an arrest warrant was issued and Sheriff’s deputies brought him into the Sheriff’s Office on Tuesday in handcuffs and shackles. Charges have been filed.
“A juvenile petition has been taken out against the 11-year-old,” said Peter White, Vance County Sheriff. “He is in the custody of juvenile services.”
