The Denver Broncos’ Executive Vice-President and their all-time most legendary quarterback recently declared himself to be one of the One Percent who truly believes it’s best for society to go without any kind of protection and help for those who lost their job, or cannot find enough work to feed their children and keep the lights on. In other words, his true Republican colors came shining through. This was in thanks to the interview John Elway gave to Fox News before his team got wiped off the field by the Seattle Seahawks.
Host Chris Wallace asked Elway, who has been a part of the NFL — which benefits from an anti-trust exemption and has generated roughly $9 billion in tax-exempt profits — in one way or another for decades why he supports the GOP.
“Well, it goes to what my beliefs are. I believe that we’re giving the opportunity to succeed or not succeed,” said Elway. He continued, “I don’t believe in safety nets. Obviously, we’ve got to have some kind of safety nets. But I think my philosophy is when given the opportunity to go take advantage of that, I think that’s when you get the best out of people.”
Apparently Elway meant to say he’s against safety nets unless they’re about nine billion dollars wide.
