On October 15th, MSNBC’s Thomas Roberts proved to Marsha Blackburn(R-TN) that those rumors about “spineless liberals” are just that. Roberts interviewed Blackburn regarding the GOP’s hostage-taking, and asked her the question that’s been on everyone’s mind lately:
“Do you hate the Affordable Care Act more than you love your country?”
Blackburn’s response was typically Southern aristocrat, equal parts condescension, guilt-tripping and “Oh mah GOO’NESS” incredulity intended to invoke the simple innocence of Shirley Temple. But the practiced reaction didn’t phase Roberts, because he was armed with more than turn-of-the-century Southern cliches.
Facts, Congresswoman. FACTS.
TR: Let me ask you, when it comes to Obamacare, do you hate Obamacare more than you love your country?
MB: I’ve got to tell you something. I think that comments like that, that you are making, are just incredibly inappropriate.
TR: You don’t think it’s incredibly inappropriate to shut down our government and take all the hostages of Americans that you’ve taken? No, it’s not inappropriate because you took the government hostage through the shutdown and all the American people, you’re now walking them to a cliff, the economy, and you’re going to push them over one by one based on the fact that you don’t like the ACA. That’s all it is. You don’t like the Affordable Care Act.
MB: Just listen to the way you’re sounding. My goo’ness! We didn’t want a government shutdown. We don’t want a government default.
TR: Really? Because on August the 6th, at the Economic Summit in Nashville…. On August 6th… at the Economic Club in Nashville you said, “Everything we can do, whether it’s defunding, delaying, repealing or replacing, all of our energy need to be in every one of these efforts. I applaud Ted Cruz for getting this out there and bringing it to the forefront. Did you not say that?
MB: Those are comments that I did make to the Economic Club.
TR: You have been planning a shutdown since August. Since AUGUST.”
Oh, yes, Ms. Blackburn. Play Shirley Temple all you want. You were one of the people who voted to pass Eric Cantor’s coup the day before the shutdown, and you’ve been planning this shutdown for months. YEARS. You and your Teabagger cronies have said as much time and time again since 2008.
You’re not interested in doing anything for America, let alone saving money or funding the nation. If you were, you wouldn’t have voted to eliminate the medical devices tax as a favor to your money-men. What money-men, exactly? Well, here’s a list of your Top Five Contributors from 2013 to 2014.
