A pair of Florida (of course) men decided that the best way to celebrate Halloween this year was to portray one of the most shameful judicial debacles in Florida’s history.
Greg Cimeno (22) can be seen in his portrayal of George Zimmerman, who got away with the murder of Trayvon Martin, and African-American teenager who was stalked, and eventually gunned down by Zimmerman. Zimmerman claims that Trayvon, who was armed only with Skittles and an Arizona beverage, presented a threatening presence. Ignoring 911 operators’ instructions not to follow Martin, and certainly not to confront him, Zimmerman did exactly that. While he claims Martin “grabbed his gun,” the gun lacked any of Martin’s DNA. Zimmerman purported that he and Martin were in a fight for their lives, but the minimal amount of Zimmerman’s DNA on Martin’s hoodie contradicts that. In the end, Zimmerman–who has a history riddled with violence–was allowed to get away with murder.
William Filene (25) dressed up as Martin, complete with a bloody gray hoodie and….BLACKFACE!
Caitlin Cimeno, in the middle, is wearing the ridiculously named “Robyn Da Hood” costume. Cimeno posted the incredibly racist photo online, “just for fun.” While her profile was quickly made private, and the image removed, the trio defended the costume as “hilarious.”
While the pair of malfeasant imbeciles seem to think that their antics are funny, this serves to show Florida’s disconnect with the current century. Blackface has no place in a civilized society. It is simply a shameful antic that deserves to be buried deep within America’s past. The use of it in a costume is just as awful as idiotically waving around a confederate flag screaming, “The south will rise again!”
Unfortunately, this incident presents yet another example of the mainstreaming and acceptance, in some circles, of overt racism in America.
Of course, as with most racists, these dumbasses will never admit that they are, indeed, racist.
