Benghazi was a bust, Obamacare was a massive success, and Bergdahl blew up in their face. What’s a good conservative to do, now that every manufactured scandal that they’ve got is crumbling and they still haven’t managed to stick any of it on the president that they hate so much?
Dig even deeper, find something older, and hope that nobody notices the scandal necromancy they’re practicing. With the sudden burst of Benghazi, the conservative media has become quite adept at it. Enter the 2013 IRS scandal.
Right-wingers respond to taxes in much the same way a toddler responds to nap-time, and slamming a Democrats has always been seen as a winning issue for their side. Leading the charge now is Rush Limbaugh, everyone’s favorite empty suit with a mike. On Tuesday, Limbaugh took to the airwaves, demanding that President Obama be impeached for his administration’s handling of the IRS scandal and saying that (bolding mine):
I mean, this guy needs to be impeached. We impeached Nixon for less than this kind of stuff. Nixon only dreamed about doing what this guy’s done. Nixon only dreamed about doing what Lois Lerner has done. Nixon only dreamed of using the IRS to damage his political opponents. He never did it, but they wanted to convict him of a thought crime nevertheless. Well, these people have done it, and now they’re being called on it, and they’re asked to explain it.
In Limbaugh Land, Nixon was unfairly targeted by the Democrats and impeached as a result. In the real world, yes, the IRS was used to harass political opponents by the Nixon administration. I’d ask Rush how that crow tastes, but he probably can’t tell with all the BS he’s spewing.
