How often do we liberals hear TEApublicans make a racist statement, or post a racist picture, only to recoil in mock horror when they are called on it?
“We were just joking!”
“Don’t be so politically correct all the time!”
“Quit playing the race card!”
“Some of my best friends are black!”
Poor persecuted Tea Partiers. :(
Well, as the saying goes, if it looks like a duck, and quacks like a duck, it’s probably a duck. We already know that the base of the TEApublican party is the older white Evangelical male from the South, many of whom are descendants from families who held slaves, and who are permeated in a culture of racism that exists even to this day.
The latest example of blatant racism disguised as a “joke” comes not from the South, but from Montana, where Jennifer Olsen, who is currently serving as the Yellowstone County, Montana, Republican County chairwoman, and a co-founder of the TEApublican organization called “Montana Shrugged: Tea Party Patriots,” which has engaged in some pretty shady tactics in the past.
Olsen posted the picture of the watermelon bait on her Facebook page, with the obvious implication that someone set it up as an “Obama trap.” Since the picture has appeared on her page, she has shut it down. But not before the oh-so-predictable denial that she posted the photo in the first place. Apparently, Olsen is unaware of this thing called a “screen shot,” so there was no need for her to deny that a racist “joke” was posted on her Facebook page. Or play the “Liberals are making stuff up!” card.
So us liberals will once again exercise great patience and wait for Olsen’s apology. Or we’ll wait for the news that she has been booted from her position with the most populous county in Montana. We’re guessing that at least one of those things will happen around the time pigs sprout wings and fly.

In all of sports there is no fan base any where that can compare to the Cubs no where, it doesn’t matter how bad they do how much pain they inflict on their Fans the fans still come out and support the cubs, Imagine what this country would be like if the people were as supportive of the President SMH, but there is a panic in the white circles as they realize that come 2020 they will no longer be the Majority, they will be the minority, and working in the fields isn’t something they are looking forward to, So when the racists say there you go again with the race card, just say to them the only States that Obama lost all have a very rich history of Racism and civil rights violations, when you talk about voter fraud I would suggest that they start in the states that Obama lost, the white which I am one are afraid of fairness, afraid they will loose all the great tax breaks all the loop holes will be gone, and the companies are afraid they’ll actually have to pay their employees , for any person to say this has nothing to do with race is a fool, and most of the Jethro’s and Ellie Mae yahoo fools out their thought that a Budget was a rent a car company, and have never ever heard of a deficit, and ceiling debt has them scratching their heads, hell if it’s not a gun or a four wheel drive pick up truck the Yahoo’s would be walking around like Zombies , the fools are getting screwed and their screaming for more , and it’s a fact that better than 60% of the Tea Party is made up of white hate groups, and yet they say it has nothing to do with the color of his skin, you can take all their money their rights their land but don’t take their guns , they are racists fools and I’ll keep playing the race card until racism no longer exists, to say all Republicans and Ice Tea Party are racists would be wrong, but you can say all racists are republican, and Ice Tea Party .
Am I the only one who thinks the watermelon picture is essentially harmless? I mean, does joking about racial stereotypes really make someone a racist?

Yes it does, and he not joking he’s making a statement , but of course an uneducated yahoo would think that is harmless and funny.
I’ve said it before, and I will continue to say it to the end of my days: There is no place in today’s world for racism. There never was, but that did not stop this kind of crap from going on. It remains the same; if you call them on it, the deny that they are racist and accuse you of being a racist for saying so. It was a joke, or a political statement. I, for one, am getting tired of the same old excuses for what they are doing and how they are doing it. Even in the halls of congress, they can barely hide their disdain for this man, and it has very little to do with politics.
Well said, John. These battles were fought fifty years ago, but the animosity and bigotry persist. When will we ever learn?

I’m qualified to join the Sons of Confedrate Veterans and plan on doing so the day Hell freezes over, maybe the day after. At least the demographics are changing. It may take past my lifetime (56 now), but I can at least know that the kind of folks described in the article will eventually become a small minority of kooks instead of a large plurality of kooks. ☮

Or as I like to call it, “when the Lions win the Super Bowl”. In other words, it ain’t happening.

Well said Jason- this from a diehard Lions AND Cubs fan! At least the Lions have a championship in my lifetime (I was 11 months old when they beat the Browns in ’57)!!!
