The Saturday University of Missouri game against Tennessee had some special guests: members of the hate group thinly veiled as the Westboro Baptist Church.
Ever since Michael Sam (who could be the NFL’s first openly gay player) announced his sexual preference, the world has come out in support of the player. Notably, sportscaster Dale Hansen offered up an impassioned speech condemning those who judge Sam based on his sexuality given the treasure trove of horrible people in the NFL.
The Westboro Baptist Church joined the vocal minority in opposing Michael Sam’s existence, and elected to show it at the game. Unfortunately for them, the “church” was unprepared for the fan response. University students formed a human wall, blocking the hate group from view while singing the alma mater until just before tip-off — an act that earned the appreciation of the man to whom they were giving their support.
Of course, Westboro Baptist whined a little, too
Way to go, Missouri students!
