On Sunday’s Fox and Friends, the crew discussed the Republican Party’s tendency to act as a repellant to voters who don’t remember using a rotary phone to call in donations to Charles Coughlin. It’s no secret that a typical GOP rally more closely resembles an AARP Bingo night than a forum that allows people to air their grievances and discuss solutions.
Dana Perino admitted that the Republican Party is fighting an uphill battle against its tendency to appeal largely to old, white men.”It’s been beaten into our heads: You’re too old, you’re too white, you’re too male. And that is true demographically across the board,” she said.
However, Perino noted that some of the younger people who are attracted to the Party “gave up their entire summers to help older white guys get re-elected and they deserve a little credit.”
This promoted Tucker Carlson to voice a new, bright idea: Old White Guy Day.
“We need an older white guy appreciation day. I think they’ve done a lot for this country,” he said, listing “penicillin” as a contribution old white men made to America.
Penicillin was invented by Alexander Fleming when he was 43-years-old, when he would be more correctly labeled as “middle-aged” than as an “old white guy.”
