You have to love it when Right-Wing Christians spontaneously develop mind-reading powers and can tell you what’s going on “deep down in your heart.” Mike Huckabee pulled this canard and more at CPAC today, when he gave a 10 minute speech that hit all of the tried and true right-wing cliches:
[box type=’shadow’]There is no other way to explain our history than by his hand of providence. And I hope that is something Americans are never ashamed of, and never afraid to speak. No, it’s not politically correct, and it’s not necessarily always embraced by those who control the megaphones, but in the hearts of most Americans, deep down, we know it to be true.[/box]
While nobody expects originality (or even reality) to come out of CPAC, keep in mind that this dialogue, laced with the persecution fantasy as it is, is coming from a man who has said that Muslims are uncorked animals, that removing life support from brain-dead teens will lead to Nazi concentration camps, and that women have been lead to believe they can’t control their libidos. But forget all that, we know deep in our hearts that what he’s saying is right; search your feelings, America, you know it to be true.
It can safely be said that if this is Huckabee’s idea of divine providence, most Americans want nothing to do with it. Over the course of his speech, Huckabee also felt it necessary to drag Putin in, “I know the only time that Vladimir Putin shivers is when he takes his shirt off in a cold Russian winter,” Huckabee said, taking a potshot at Obama’s perceived weaknesses regarding the current crisis in the Ukraine – that is, not bombing Russia immediately and starting World War III, like the chickenhawks want. While he didn’t raise much in the way of his earlier social conservatism, he took shots at Hillary Clinton, and also joined with the Benghazi Chorus, who’ve had so much practice they will be preforming live on Broadway next month with the 241 American servicemen killed during the 1983 Beirut Bombing under Ronald Reagan.
